When the bad news keeps coming and anxiety hits, in that exact moment, what do you do? What is your first reaction? Today’s video is going to explore a response to anxiety that might change your entire outlook on your situation.

Read (from the New Living Translation)

Psalm 37:4

Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires.

Psalm 27:1-4

The Lord is my light and my salvation—
so why should I be afraid?
The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger,
    so why should I tremble?
When evil people come to devour me,
when my enemies and foes attack me,
    they will stumble and fall.
Though a mighty army surrounds me,
my heart will not be afraid.
Even if I am attacked,
    I will remain confident.

The one thing I ask of the Lord
    the thing I seek most—
is to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life,
    delighting in the Lord’s perfections
    and meditating in his Temple.

Go Deep

Country music legend, Jo Dee Messina, responded to a moment of anxiety and bad news in a profound and beautiful way. In today’s video, she gives us an update on her battle with cancer and how she’s finding joy in the midst of fear.

Watch Jo Dee perform the song inspired by this journey! She performed her brand new single, “Bigger Than This,” on Huckabee.

Notes from the Life Application Study Bible

Fear is a dark shadow that envelops us and ultimately imprisons us within ourselves. Everyone has been a prisoner of fear at one time or another-fear of rejection, misunderstanding, uncertainty, sickness, or even death. But we can conquer fear by trusting in the Lord, who brings salvation. If we want to dispel the darkness of fear, let us remember with the psalm writer that “the Lord is my light and my salvation.”

Don’t forget, if you’re struggling with something today, let the World’s Biggest Small Group family pray for you! Check out WAY-FM’s Prayer Wall, post your prayer request, and even pray for others! Ephesians 1:18

I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.

Go Deep

Singer/Songwriter, Jordan Feliz, tried to take control when worry took over his life. God was asking him to move across the country and take a huge leap of faith! So, Jordan started planning! But when his plans fell through, he only had one option left. And that’s where he learned a beautiful lesson about God.

After that leap of faith, Jordan Feliz has made some awesome music! Check out this live performance of his song “Witness.”

Notes from the Life Application Study Bible

To receive God’s guidance, said Solomon, we must seek God’s will in all we do. This means turning every area of life over to him. About a thousand years later, Jesus emphasized this same truth (Matthew 6:33). Examine your values and priorities. What is important to you? In what areas have you not acknowledged him? You may already acknowledge God in many areas of your life, but the areas where you attempt to restrict or ignore him will cause you grief. Make him a vital part of everything you do; then he will guide you because you will be working to accomplish his purpose.

There’s a lot to worry about and a lot to be afraid of, isn’t there? So, today’s fool-proof topic will be a breath of fresh air! It’s the one thing you never have to be afraid of losing.

Read (from the New Living Translation)

Romans 8:38

And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.

Go Deep

When Betty Rock (from The Wally Show) found herself angry at God, fear instantly struck. “Great, now even God is mad at me. I don’t even have him.” But thankfully, God showed up powerfully in this moment and taught her something about fear that we all need to remember.

Notes from the Life Application Study Bible

Powers are unseen forces of evil in the universe, forces like Satan and his fallen angels (see Ephesians 6:12). In Christ we are super-conquerors, and his love will protect us from any such forces.

John 14:27

Not only is CJ a hilarious storyteller, but what brought him to the CJ & Joy show in the first place took courage – and a big step of faith. In fact, it took him driving 5 hours away from home just to say one prayer! Hear all about it in today’s video.

Notes from the Life Application Study Bible

The end result of the Holy Spirit’s work in our lives is deep and lasting peace. Unlike worldly peace, which is usually defined as the absence of conflict, this peace is confident assurance in any circumstance; with Christ’s peace, we have no need to fear the present or the future. Sin, fear, uncertainty, doubt, and numerous other forces are at war within us. The peace of God moves into our hearts and lives to restrain these hostile forces and offer comfort in place of conflict. Jesus says he will give us that peace if we are willing to accept it from him. If your life is full of stress, allow the Holy Spirit to fill you with Christ’s peace (see Philippians 4:6, 7 for more on experiencing God’s peace).

Welcome to Day 6! You’re 1/3 of the way through the series! We hope your perspective on fear is starting to change for the better. Today we get into some very practical advice on dealing with the crippling effects of anxiety and panic attacks. This is a good one!

Read (from the New Living Translation)

Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

Before going into a songwriting session, Jasmine Murray suffered from a panic attack. This had been going on for a while and she hadn’t opened up about it. But that day, everything changed and something beautiful came from it. If you’ve ever suffered from anxiety, Jasmine’s video is for you!

This is the song that Jasmine wrote that day in the songwriting session. It’s called, “Fearless.”

Notes from the Life Application Study Bible

We’re all encouraged by a leader who stirs us to move ahead, someone who believes we can do the task he has given and who will be with us all the way. God is that kind of leader. He knows the future, and his plans for us are good and full of hope. As long as God, who knows the future, provides our agenda and goes with us as we fulfill his mission, we can have boundless hope. This does not mean that we will be spared pain, suffering, or hardship, but that God will see us through to a glorious conclusion.

It’s hard to talk about fear and not think about the tragedies we see on the news every day. We’ve all had those moments when we think, “That could happen to anyone… Even me.” Let’s talk about keeping that fear from controlling our minds and what truths God gives us to think on instead.

Read (from the New Living Translation)

2 Timothy 1:7

For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.

Go Deep

When walking into a football stadium just days after a tragic shooting, Justin Paul (from WAY-FM) was reminded of something his mother used to tell him. It was surprisingly relevant to every adult struggling with fear.

Notes from the Life Application Study Bible

Paul [author of 2 Timothy] mentions three characteristics of the effective Christian leader: power, love, and self-discipline. These are available to us because the Holy Spirit lives in us. Follow his leading each day so that your life will more fully exhibit these characteristics. See Galatians 5:22, 23 for a list of the by-products of the Holy Spirit living in us.

You made it to Day 4! Just a reminder, if you ever need prayer as you work through these topics, please comment below or visit WAY-FM’s Prayer Wall. We’d love to pray for you and encourage you!

Read (from the New Living Translation)

1 Samuel 17:26

David asked the soldiers standing nearby, “What will a man get for killing this Philistine and ending his defiance of Israel? Who is this pagan Philistine anyway, that he is allowed to defy the armies of the living God?”

Go Deep

Have you ever looked at your problems and thought, “This is just too big.” Joy Summers (of CJ & Joy) has been there, too!! In today’s video, Joy gets into the details of how we can start looking beyond our fears and at a God who is bigger than we can imagine!

Notes from the Life Application Study Bible

What a difference perspective can make. Most of the onlookers saw only a giant. David, however, saw a mortal man defying almighty God. Goliath was a target too big to miss. He knew he would not be alone when he faced Goliath; God would fight with him. He looked at his situation from God’s point of view. Who or what are the “giants” you are facing?

You might know Zach Williams from his songs “Chain Breaker” and “Old Church Choir.” His new song, “Fear is a Liar” is the perfect anthem for this series!

Read (from the New Living Translation)

1 John 4:18

Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love.

Go Deep

“The devil has a way of getting in your head and messing with your faith.” Zach Williams shares his own run-in with crippling fear. Now, he’s writing songs, speaking out against fear, and encouraging others to walk in faith. So, how did he move from fear to faith? Watch today’s video to find out!

Watch the powerful video to Zach’s song called, “Fear is a Liar.”

Notes from the Life Application Study Bible

If we ever are afraid of the future, eternity, or God’s judgement, we can remind ourselves of God’s love. We know that he loves us perfectly (Romans 8:38, 39). We can resolve our fears first by focusing on his immeasurable love for us, and then by allowing him to love others through us. His love will quit your fears and give you confidence.

Ready for Day 2? Singer/songwriter, Natalie Grant shares the power-packed Scriptures that help her face fear every day!

Read (from the New Living Translation)

2 Corinthians 10:5

We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.

Romans 8:6

So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.

Go Deep

Have you ever felt guilty for feeling afraid? Natalie gets it. When the word “cancer” entered her life, she was terrified. Cancer threatened to take her voice away and change everything about her life. But she stood firm and learned some powerful lessons about dealing with fear. She tells the full tale in today’s video.

Natalie recorded this song before she ever knew she would face cancer, but it’s now taken on a whole new meaning for her. The lyrics are powerful and a great reminder of the truth Natalie shared in her video. It’s called, “More Than Anything.”

Notes from the Life Application Study Bible

Paul divides people into two categories: those who are dominated by their sinful nature, and those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit. All of us would be in the first category if Jesus hadn’t offered us a way out. Once we have said yes to Jesus, we will want to continue following him, because his way brings life and peace. Daily we must consciously choose to center our life on God. Use the Bible to discover God’s guidelines, and then, follow them. In every perplexing situation, ask yourself What would Jesus want me to do? When the Holy Spirit points out what is right, do it eagerly. For more on our sinful nature versus our new life in Christ, see Romans 6:6-8; Ephesians 4:22-24; Colossians 3:3-15.

Get ready for a big kick-off! But first, here’s a road map of what you’ll see each day for the next 15 weekdays:

  1. READ: Each day you’ll read a Bible passage speaking truth about fear and going along with each story.
  2. GO DEEP: Watch each day’s video from your favorite artists and personalities. They’ll share a personal story on fear and some powerful insights they’ve learned from experience!
  3. NOTES: These are so cool! Notes from the Life Application Study Bible will be provided each day to help you understand and apply the verses you’re reading. They’ll give you insights that you wouldn’t have known otherwise!
  4. BONUS – RESPOND: You can always join the conversation in the comments – ask questions, share stories, encourage others who are battling with fear or anxiety, as well. You can also always post a prayer request or pray for others on the WAY-FM Prayer Wall.

Here we go!

Read (from the New Living Translation)

Isaiah 41:10

Don’t be afraid, for I am with you.
Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you.
I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.

Go Deep

Leave it to Wally (from The Wally Show) to start your series on fear by doing something a little crazy! Wally’s comical (and daring) introduction in today’s video will make you laugh, but his heartfelt story about giving God his deepest fear will get you thinking.

Notes (from the Life Application Study Bible)

Although God chose the Israelites to represent him to the world, they failed to do this; so God punished them and sent them into captivity. Now all believers are God’s chosen people, and all share the responsibility of representing him into the world. One day God will bring all his faithful people together. We need not fear because: (1) God is with us (“I am with you”); (2) God has established a relationship with us (“I am your God”); and (3) God gives us assurance of his strength, help, and victory over sin and death. Are you aware of all the ways God has helped you?
