Get ready for a big kick-off! But first, here’s a road map of what you’ll see each day for the next 15 weekdays:

  1. READ: Each day you’ll read a Bible passage speaking truth about fear and going along with each story.
  2. GO DEEP: Watch each day’s video from your favorite artists and personalities. They’ll share a personal story on fear and some powerful insights they’ve learned from experience!
  3. NOTES: These are so cool! Notes from the Life Application Study Bible will be provided each day to help you understand and apply the verses you’re reading. They’ll give you insights that you wouldn’t have known otherwise!
  4. BONUS – RESPOND: You can always join the conversation in the comments – ask questions, share stories, encourage others who are battling with fear or anxiety, as well. You can also always post a prayer request or pray for others on the WAY-FM Prayer Wall.

Here we go!

Read (from the New Living Translation)

Isaiah 41:10

Don’t be afraid, for I am with you.
Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you.
I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.

Go Deep

Leave it to Wally (from The Wally Show) to start your series on fear by doing something a little crazy! Wally’s comical (and daring) introduction in today’s video will make you laugh, but his heartfelt story about giving God his deepest fear will get you thinking.

Notes (from the Life Application Study Bible)

Although God chose the Israelites to represent him to the world, they failed to do this; so God punished them and sent them into captivity. Now all believers are God’s chosen people, and all share the responsibility of representing him into the world. One day God will bring all his faithful people together. We need not fear because: (1) God is with us (“I am with you”); (2) God has established a relationship with us (“I am your God”); and (3) God gives us assurance of his strength, help, and victory over sin and death. Are you aware of all the ways God has helped you?

I’m excited for this WBSG study on Fear. I struggle with fear in so many areas of my life. And even though I try to turn it over to God, I some how pick it back up again. Looking forward to what God has to teach me in and through this group.

Member

Scott I also struggle with the same problem. But as I grow in my relationship with God I have learned to let things go more and more and really just leave it up to God! I pray for your continued growth in Christ!

WAY-FM

Yeah, it’s a huge life lesson to give it to God, and to LEAVE it there in His care. Multiple things at multiple times, for sure!

Wow! My name is also Scott, and when I read this, it is exactly what I feel. I have so many fears I couldn’t list them all. The few I shared with my wife, she said it sounded like I am afraid to be myself. Which lead to a whole other list of fears? It’s like the more God blesses me, the more I fear of losing what HE gives. I am excited to learn new ways of letting go of my gear and letting God have it all. Amen!

I understand your sitution Scott. I have a hard time turning my fears over to God without taking them back. I’m trying to deal with satan’s constant attacks against me. Im learning I have to be in prayer continually to keep Satan at bay. It’s a continual battle.

I am so excited in this topic of fear!! I am a wife and mom of 3 kids, ages 7 and under. I struggle with fearing if I am being a good mom, fearing for my children’s health, fearing if my oldest daughter will change her attitude, fearing for our finances, fearing that my husband will stop loving me, fearing that other moms don’t like me, the list goes on. I know I should claim victory over it all in the name of Jesus!

Praying right now for you jaime! Fear held me captive for many year and sometimes it still does—praying for release for you from the bondage of fear! Love that song “Fear is a Liar” …I now have the word “Gutsy” tattooed on my foot to remind me that God gives me a spirit of power and love and self control. (2 Timothy 1:7)

Ouch, tattoo on the foot! You ARE courageous!

Wow, my children are different ages. Otherwise, I could have had an identical post. I share your fears. I am trying so hard to turn them over to God, and then I just keep taking them back – especially over my daughter. I will also claim victory in the name of Jesus. I know He is there and will answer in His time, not mine.

Jamie, I understand what you are saying. I too have had much of the same fear. I have two special needs children. This is the 4th time in the past 3 days that Isaiah 41.10 has shown up in different places to me…beginning to think it’s not a coincidence. Wally – you hit my heartstrings. I lost my husband in a work accident at a grain elevator in Wichita, KS on January 2nd. While I clearly mourn for the loss of him, one of my biggest growths already has been in my relationship with God. A peace that passes all understanding is the only way to describe me in the first couple weeks. I understand your fear. It still hurts and we all still cry at times but God lifts us up and holds us in those times. We’re not bitter just waiting to see our family again one day. I’ll be praying for you and your family in this time of need.

I don’t believe God was using the Hebrews to represent Him to the world, but, to show the world what He could do with the lowest of all the peoples on the planet. He knew by doing this when it comes time to reveal his son to all, upon his son’s second coming, it would be an easier task.

Cassie

No! No people are the lowest people! All people fall short, but God loves his people. We are all created in his image and no one is better than anyone else!

There is a deep desire in each person to get rid of fear completely. There are verses in the Bible that say, “Do not be afraid.” There are also many verses in the Bible that guide us towards seeking God to help diminish fear. But one thing I have found to be true over the past 30 years of my life as a Christian is that when I call on Jesus, He shows up, and my fears are extinguished. Nothing can relieve a person of fear like the presence of God. Peter walked on water towards Jesus, but became afraid… Read more »

That’s good insight, Micelle. As most of us do, I struggle with fear on a daily basis-specifically in the form of anxiety and panic. As you said, I’ve realized that the ultimate goal isn’t never being afraid or never feeling fear. It’s the realization that despite any circumstance, God gives us the strength to get through our fears and overcome them. And the HE does it all over again for the next one. Good word and keep the faith! God bless.

Thank you for this verse for Day 1. May I suggest to not stop there and go on to include verse 13. In these two verses we have the tendency to overlook the parts that say that God is holding us with His right hand (verse 11); and in verse 13, He is holding our right hand. Get a visual of this: If you and God are standing side by side, and He is holding your right hand with His right hand, that means He needs to put His left arm around you: holding you, demonstrating that we have no… Read more »

“Although God chose the Israelites to represent him to the world, they failed to do this; so God punished them and sent them into captivity.“ The Israelites were allowed to enter captivity because of their disobedience but the Lord does not punish his children for their failures. Christ took all of the punishment for the failures of His chosen people. You and I fail consistently but the Lord sympathizes with us in our weaknesses and because of Jesus we can confidently ask God for help. I agree, Allyss. I really struggled with that devotional thought. And my first response was to be afraid that God would punish me for not representing Him well to the world. Then God reminded me that, just as you said, he already took the punishment for our failures. His perfect love casts out all fear. He also reminded me of Romans 8:1, “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” Thank you for having the confidence in God to share your response to that devotional thought.

Great thoughts! It’s true, that thought can be tricky. I think it’s important to remember two things about that note: 1) This was taking about the Israelites before Christ came, died, rose again, and atoned for all our sins! He was still the good and gracious God then, but it was a different time (that’s a whole different kind of study! haha) 2) God is both gracious and holy. Both merciful and just. Both sides to him are vital to who He is, but it can be hard for me to wrap my head around both sometimes, right? But it’s… Read more »

One of my favorite personal experiences regarding God and fear is when I was in a bad relationship. I didn’t want to end it because my biggest fear has always been afraid of being alone, so I was willing to stay in this dumb relationship in order to keep someone in my life. I think “overcoming” fear doesn’t mean we never feel it again. It DOES mean that we are going to love and serve God no matter what. This study couldn’t have come at a better time! Fear has held me back from so many- what could have been blessings- over the years. I’m in a rut in my life/job and fear keeps me there. I’m hopinf to find those kick start verses to get me up and out! 👏🏼
Thanks for doing this, WayFM! ❤️ Prayers for all our minds and hearts to be open to His word.

I have been consumed by fear for a very long time. Fear I’m not good enough…for my husband, for my kids, my mom, but most of all for God. I love this Scripture which reminds me that He is with me! All the time! Whether I believe and trust in Him or if I’m struggling, He is still with me. I am really looking forward to this topic! I struggle with fear, anxiety, and a history of panic attacks. I am dealing with things with my marriage and some huge issues with my teenagers that cause so much worry, fear and anxiety. I know I need to give these things to God completely, but it is so hard not to keep worrying.
